I tried the atkins diet for a while but somehow it didn't work for me so I gave up which made me gain some extra weight. I can't stand it and now I really want to change something about it. So I went on a reading spree about diet themes, now I feel ready to attack the extra pounds.

It is likely that you do more cardio than weight training or any resistance training to lose weight. Replace some of your meals with a healthy subway. Eliminate all fast food, sweets, coffee, and such out your diet. Drink only water. Workout 2 hours 5 days a week. 1.5 hour should be dedicated solely into cardio so you can burn that fat effieciently. the .5 of the hour should be dedicated to toning your body. Target a different muscle five days a week.

Day 1- 1.5 of cardio and focus on legs
3 sets of 25 of walking lunges, backward lunges, squats, front and back kicks,

Day 2- Rest

Day 3- 1.5 of cardio and focus on arms
3 sets of 25 of push ups, front punches, side punches

Day 4- 1.5 of cardio and focus on abs
3 sets of 25 of full sit ups, planks (look it up if you dont know what it is already), push ups (push ups work your abs too cuz it is kind of like a plank), regular sit ups

Day 5-Rest

Day 6- 1.5 of cardio and focus on legs
3 set 25 of squats, Jumping squats( after you squat you jump), sumo squats (after you squat lift one leg like a sumo wrestler and then squat and lift the other), lunges while kicking (lunge and then kick and then lunge again)

Day 7- 1.5 of cardio and focus on arms/abs
3 sets of 25 push ups, front and side punches, full sit ups and planks

GOOD LUCk! with this you should lose 20 pounds in a month!
References :
Exercise and Diet are the perfect solution.

I would recommend you try crossfit (www.crossfit.com). They are the best-honestly. They also have great advice on nutrition.

In terms of diet - Maybe try the ZONE DIET. Its really good for achieving results. http://journal.crossfit.com/2004/05/zone-meal-plans-crossfit-journ.tpl

Cut out refined and processed carbs if you can (Bread, Pasta, Rice etc) and stick to healthy veggies and fruit. Also (and this may sound strange) eat more fat. However it must be "good fat" like Omega 3, 6 etc. Try eating a bit more fish, nuts etc. and less oil, fast food etc.

If you're really serious (although it is hard but I achieved amazing results) try the PALEO DIET , whilst incorporating ZONE diet principles. In may sound complicated but a bit of research will show you how easy it can be.

Most importantly - once you decide on something...Stick to it.
This is often the hardest part but if your mind is in it, it will make is so much easier.

Kettlebells are great by the way. Just make sure your form is correct.

Good Luck
References :
There is no magic to this. If you exercise a reasonable amount and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables of different colours, and have a sensible low fat diet then you will be on the right track. You do not want a diet - you need a new lifestyle that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Short term fixes never work. To maintain a particular weight you need to balance the amount of food you have with the amount of energy your body burns. I weigh myself every day on accurate electronic scales. I'm not obsessive but it does mean that I can change my food intake before things get out of control. I have noticed that my body gets used to being a particular weight. If I over indulge for one meal my body adjusts back to its normal weight afterwards. If I eat too much for longer than this then my body learns to be a higher weight and thinks that that is normal. Learn to take control and enjoy doing it.
References :
Well you are on the right track, Diet & Excercise are the safest and the smartest way to lose weight. They will also give you the fastest, long-term results. Losing 30 lbs in 30 days would be unrealistic but if you do in fact want to shed 30 lbs ultimately, then diet & exercise will do the trick. Any fad diets or diets that claim you will lose THAT MUCH weight in a short amount of time will result in yo-yo dieting. Yo-yo dieting is when your body "tricks" itself into starvation mode, thinking that it needs to store more fat cells; therefore, your body starts to store twice as much fat as before. There is no way to reverse this side effect of yo-yo dieting. The best way to lose weight is consistently over time. I would suggest eating small healthy snacks every two hours and getting at least 30 min-1 hour of real exercise 3-4 times per week.
References :
Watch what you shove in your face and get your rear moving. Make sure you eat 5 small meals throughout the day (every 3 to 4 hrs) and drink plenty of water. Good luck and remember, You WILL get there if you don't quit your lifestyle change.
